When a teenage girl or underage girl, usually within the ages of 13-17, becomes pregnant, that situation is called teenage pregnancy. Usually the term refers the pregnancy of a girl who has not attained legal adulthood. But, the age of legal adulthood varies from country to country. In the world today, teenage pregnancy rates are frighteningly high, ranging from 143 per 1000 in some sub-Saharan African countries to 2.9 per 1000 in South Korea. Younger mothers face additional medical concerns not faced by the mothers in their 20s or 30s.
